Om! The Turn to Self-Knowledge and Spirituality by Atman Nityananda

The Turn to Self-Knowledge and Spirituality

The journey toward self-knowledge and spiritual awakening rarely begins in a state of comfort or satisfaction. Often, it arises from a sense of saturation with external life—when sensory pleasures, career achievements, entertainment, or relationships no longer provide fulfillment. At other times, it is driven by profound internal conflict, when we feel we have "hit rock bottom" and are forced by a personal crisis to look deeply within ourselves.

Such moments of saturation or crisis are often accompanied by an insatiable thirst to uncover the deeper meaning of life. Who are we at our core? Why are we here? These questions ignite the beginning of a profound inner exploration.

However, this turning point requires more than curiosity or a simple desire for change. It calls for honesty, humility, and the courage to confront the darkest aspects of ourselves, to acknowledge our weaknesses, and to consciously strive for transformation. It is a gradual journey away from the illusions of the "ego" and toward a reconnection with our true essence.

On this path, inner work becomes an indispensable tool for uncovering truths that lie beyond the realm of senses, emotions, and thoughts. Each step deepens our awareness, brings us closer to genuine freedom, and fosters a lasting inner peace.

This journey is neither easy nor swift, but it is the most profound and liberating one can embark on. Ultimately, the search for truth is inseparable from the search for the very purpose and meaning of our existence.

Om! Walking meditation ~ Atman NItyananda

Walking meditation

Walking is one of the best activities, we can use it as meditative practice. The ancient Greek philosophers, called this, Περιπατητικός διαλογισμός – Peripatitikos dialogismos, (walking meditation.

You can do every day a walk, during which, you can concentrate on every step, repeating with each step a syllabus of the mantra (a mantra with a name of God or any other mantra you like) and at the same time, being aware of the inner silence. You can also do this, in every opportunity, every time you walk; for example, when you go for shopping to the supermarket or anywhere else.

Instead of being lost in daydreaming, being distracted by external stimulus, or looking here and there aimsly, you can use walking, to develop a new positive habit, related to the mantra and self-awareness. This habit will help you greatly, to remember repeat the mantra and the inner silence, which in its turn, it will help you, have quicker progress in your inner development and transformation.

If you do this every day, purposely, with interest and attention, in a few months (between 8 months and 12 months, or above, depending on the quality of your effort and the time you will devote to this practice) you will be create a positive habit. In this habit, it is created a link between the movement of the legs, the repetition of the mantra and the remembrance of inner silence as well. So, every time you begin to do your first one two steps (if you have already forgotten to repeat the mantra and be aware of the inner silence) you will immediately remember, to repeat the mantra and return in self-awareness (to be aware of the silent presence within).  After about a year, of systematic practice, you will have create, another positive habit, a very a powerful tool, that will help you greatly, to remember to repeat the mantra and to remain aware of the silent presence within, as well as, to develop concentration, control of senses and mind, self-awareness, dispassion, detachment and mental purity. All these are fundamental factors that accelerate your inner development and transformation.

By creating many small, positive habits, that help us to remain more time and more steadily, alert, focused and aware of the inner silent presence, we will become more and more skillful and capable, not to identify with the external objects and situations, the mind (egoic tendencies, thoughts, emotions, impulses, desires, etc.), and to eliminate as well, little by little the egoic patterns and energies; thus, our mind and heart, they will become gradually more and more pure, transparent, serene and sattvic and we will experience more and more, harmony, peace, unity, freedom and happiness, in conscious communion with our true nature (Consciousness, Atman).

This is the way to spiritualise all your actions ~ Swami Sivananda

This is the way to spiritualize all your actions

What is the Divine Life?

To shed the animal in man, and to sublimate the human in him to the divine.
To express the sublimation, in his daily life, in his hourly life, in thought, word, and deed, that is divine life.
To pray, to do japa nama (repetition of God's name), to sing the glory of God, to do kirtan (chanting mantras), to meditate on the Lord, is divine life.

Understand life. Live divinely. Seek good company.

Fear not. Waste not time.Depend on God.
Understand life's supreme purpose. Seek the eternal. Realize the underlying essence.
Have intense thirst for liberation. Die to live. Discipline the mind. Have self-control. Learn to be wise. Make the best use of this human birth. Realize the oneness of existence.

See God in all beings and things, see the world as a manifestation of God. It is not necessary to abandon the world in order to have a vision of God, because the world itself is a manifestation of God.

Treat all kinds of work, domestic, official, etc., as service of God. Surrender all your actions and their fruits to the Lord. give up agency. Feel you are an instrument in the hands of the Lord. Actions will not bind you. Your heart will be purified. The grace and light of God will descend on you.

This is the way to spiritualize all your actions.

om! Renunciation is the essence of spirituality ~ Swami Sivananda

“A man has a thousand and one desires. But the central strong desire is the sexual desire. The fundamental desire is the urge for a mate. All hang on this central basic desire. The desire for money, the desire for a son, the desire for property, the desire for houses, the desire for cattle and other desires come later on.”    ~ Swami Sivananda

All suffering is born of desire. Pleasure depends on things, happiness does not”  ~ Nisargadatta

Sex, food, money, power, recognition and praise are what people want. And all these are based on sex pleasure

Sex is the original cause of lust and desire. This lust and desire for sex became lust and desire for food, money, power, recognition and praise (pride).

So in two words lust and pride are the way to suffering.

When a man’s desire is not gratified and when someone stands in the way of its fulfillment, the man becomes angry. The desire gets transformed into anger. Anger is only a modification or form of desire. Anger is desire itself.”

“All evil qualities and actions proceed from anger.”

“Desire is the root cause of all evil actions. If desire is removed, then the divine power manifests in its full glory and one enjoys peace, bliss, light and freedom.”
 ~ Swami Sivananda

“Desire is a mode of the emotive mind. It has got a power of externalizing the mind. Desire is the fuel; thought is the fire. The thought-fire is kept up by the desire-fuel.”

“…the endless chain is welded out of three component, desire, thought and activity. A desire stimulates a thought; a thought embodies itself in an act.”

"Remember always that renunciation is the essence of spirituality, and the secret of Self-realization.

Renunciation is getting rid of egoism, desires and cravings.

Renunciation is the only way to perfection and bliss eternal.

Renunciation leads to complete unification with the supreme Being.

Renounce and be free."

Importance of a Spiritual diary by Swami Sivananda

Importance of a Spiritual diary
by Swami Sivananda

The keeping up of a daily spiritual diary is an indispensable requisite. It is certainly of paramount importance. Those who are already in the habit of keeping it know its incalculable advantages. A diary is a whip for goading the mind towards righteousness and God. The diary is your teacher and guide. It is the eye-opener. It will help you to destroy all your evil qualities and to be regular in your spiritual practices. It shows the way to freedom and Eternal Bliss. Those who wish to evolve rapidly must keep a daily record of their actions. If you regularly maintain a diary, you will get solace, peace of mind and quick progress in the spiritual path. Maintain daily diary and realise the marvellous results!

Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi always advised his students to keep a daily diary. I am always keen on this point. My students keep five different kinds of notebooks. They write their Ishta Mantra in a notebook for one hour daily observing the vow of silence. There is a great deal of concentration in writing a Mantra in a notebook. It forms Japa also at the same time. They keep daily record of their actions. They keep a notebook for synonyms. Whenever they come across difficult words, they write down in the notebook those words with their synonyms. They at once refer to the dictionary. This gives a fund of knowledge. They will have a rich vocabulary of words. They can have good command of the language. Every week they go through their notebooks very carefully. They keep another notebook wherein they take down important points of what they read daily. They note down in another notebook my practical instructions which I give them casually. This develops their Manana Sakti or power of reflection. He who regulates his life on the above lines is sure to become a great man in a short time. There is no doubt of this. Do it practically and see how you grow.

All great men of the world keep diaries. The life of Benjamin Franklin is known to you all. He kept a daily diary. He noted down the number of untruths and wrong actions for which he was responsible during the course of the day. In course of time he became a perfect man. He had perfect control over his mind.

You will have to record in your diary the time you get up from the bed in the morning and retire to bed, the hours of sleep, the study of religious books, the number of Malas of Japa, how many hours you meditate daily, the nature of mistake you committed and the self-punishment you have given to rectify yourself in the form of fasting or increase in the number of Malas of Japa, etc., the lies you have uttered in the course of the day, how many times you became angry and how long it lasted, how many hours you spent in selfless service, how many times passion troubled you and how long it lasted, and the methods you adopted in checking it, the number of Pranayamas you did daily, how long you have practised Asanas and how many hours you have wasted in useless company and talk, etc.

You can add also how many hours did you observe Mouna *Silencce) daily. Did you keep vigils on Sivaratri, Sri Krishna Janmashtami or any other days? How many days did you fast? How many times you failed in the control of evil habits? Prepare a similar diary as shown elsewhere in this book and verify whether you are really progressing. Please send a copy of the diary to me every month. Just keep the diary for six months and then watch the results. If you want quick spiritual attainments, you should never neglect to record everything in your diary. To change the worldly nature it needs rigorous Sadhana. You should not hide your weaknesses and defects while making out daily diaries. It is only to correct and mould oneself, to purge out all weaknesses, defects and errors, to develop the divine nature and to attain Self-realisation that this diary is maintained. If the aspirant is sincere in his jottings the diary itself will become his silent master which will open his eyes and direct him Godward. All people keep Dhobi's diary and milk diary, but alas, they have neglected to keep up the most important diary i.e., Spiritual Diary which will help to correct one's mistakes and to attain quickly Self-realisation or the final beatitude of life.

A big thief is hiding himself in your brain. He has snatched away your Atmic pearl. He is giving you immense worries and troubles. He is deluding you. The thief is your mind. You must not be lenient towards him. You must crush him. You must kill him ruthlessly. There is no other sword sharper than this diary to kill him. It checks his happy-go-lucky ways and destroys him eventually. All your daily mistakes will be corrected if you maintain daily spiritual diary. A good time will come when you will be entirely free from anger, untruth, lust, etc. You will become a perfect man.

Your father and mother gave you this body. They gave you food and clothing. But this diary is superior to your parents. It shows the way to freedom and eternal bliss. It is your Guru. Turn the pages of your diary once a week. If you can record your actions every hour, your growth will be very rapid. Happy is the man who keeps a daily diary because he is very near to God. He has a strong will and is free from defects and mistakes.

By keeping daily diary you can then and there rectify your mistakes. You can do more Sadhana and evolve quickly. There is no other better friend and more faithful teacher or Guru than your diary. It will teach you the value of time. At the end of every month calculate the total number of hours you have spent in Japa, study of religious books, Pranayama, Asanas, sleep, etc. Then you will be able to know how much time you are spending for religious purposes. You have got every chance to increase the period of Japa, meditation, etc., gradually. If you maintain a daily diary properly without any fault in any of the items you will not like to waste even a single minute unnecessarily. Then alone you will understand the value of time and how it slips away.

The Spiritual Diary
The Spiritual Diary is a whip for goading the mind towards righteousness and God. If you regularly maintain this diary you will get solace, peace of mind and make quick progress in the spiritual path. Maintain a daily diary and realize the marvelous results.

LAZINESS / INERTIA / SELF-JUSTIFICATION / EXTROVERSION ~ Atman Nityananda

LAZINESS / INERTIA / SELF-JUSTIFICATION /  EXTROVERSION

The first ‘things’ to overcome in the spiritual path is laziness and inertia.

If we cannot succeed to this, we will never be able to apply consistently and systematically our daily spiritual program; and without regular daily practice there cannot be any real progress and transformation.

The second one we have to overcome is self-justification. We have to abandon this destructive habit to invent justifications for our negligence, inconsistency and lack of discipline in implementing our daily program.

Most people fail to achieve a deep transformation or abandon the spiritual path, due to inertia and constant self-justification.

The third and crucial one is to manage to overcome the extroversion of the mind. The rajasic mind  by nature is extroverted and continually, compulsively and mechanically seeks sensory experiences and pleasures. This makes the mind hyperactive, distracted, restless and the attention is turned outwards.

But in order to do meditation and be aware of our true nature we need a calm, still, focused introverted mind.

Our effort to conquer our senses and mind and turn our mind within towards its source is the great inner battle. It is a battle  between the external sensory mind and ego and the inner sattvic intellect or intelligence which is the charioteer that has the capacity (when is trained and used properly) to tame the mind and senses and drive the attention inward, towards  our true nature.

Without to overcome laziness, inertia and self-justification will not even get to start a genuine effort to tame the mind and become its master. And without the conquest of mind, self-realization is not possible.

PRANA,TEJAS AND OJAS by David Frawley

  PRANA,TEJAS AND OJAS

These three subtle energies which are related with the sexual energy and fluids are of great importance for our spiritual transformation.

Basic expressions of  Prana,Tejas and Ojas
OJAS, or Primal Vigor expressed as physical and mental endurance, strength, insulation, immunity, fertility, patience, and equilibrium.
TEJAS, or Inner Radiance expressed as conviction, courage, intellect, creative vision, and a melting tenderness that draws all hearts. It is an internal fire fueled by Ojas.
PRANA, or Intuitive Energy expressed as spontaneous right action, presence, lightness of body, enthusiam, creative action, and ascension.

Prana,Tejas and Ojas

by David Frawley

extract from his book Yoga and Ayurveda

Yoga is an alchemical process of balancing and transforming the energies of the psyche. To approach it we must understand how to work with these energies in a practical way. In this chapter we will introduce a deeper level of the doshas that is important relative to yogic practice. Vata, pitta and kapha have subtle counterparts called prana, tejas and ojas, which could be called "the three vital essences." These are the root or master forms of vata, pitta and kapha that control ordinary psychophysical functioning and, if reoriented properly, energize higher spiritual potentials as well. They are not simply forces of the physical body but of the subtle and causal bodies as well.
Prana, tejas and ojas are the essential or beneficial forms of  vata, pitta and kapha that sustain positive vitality. Unlike the doshas, which are factors of disease, they promote health, creativity and well-being and provide the support for deeper yogic and meditational practices.

Prana — primal life-force: the subtle energy of air as the master force and guiding intelligence behind all psychophysical functions, responsible for coordination of breath, senses and mind. On an inner level, it governs the unfoldment and harmonization of all higher states of consciousness.
Tejas — inner radiance: the subtle energy of fire as the radiance of vitality through which we digest air, impressions and thoughts. On an inner level, it governs the unfoldment of all higher perceptual capacities.
Ojas — primal vigor:, the subtle energy of water as the stored up vital reserve, the basis for physical and mental endurance; the internalized essence of digested food, water, air, impressions and thought. On an inner level, it is responsible for nourishing and grounding the development of all higher faculties.

These three forces are interrelated. Prana and tejas are rooted  in ojas and can be regarded as aspects of ojas. Tejas is the heat and light energy of ojas that has an oily quality and, like ghee, can sustain a flame. Prana is the energy and strength that comes from ojas after it has been kindled into tejas. Ojas proper is the potential, the stamina of the mind and nervous system for holding tejas and prana. Ojas has the capacity to turn into tejas (heat), which has the capacity to turn into prana (electricity).

Prana, tejas and ojas resemble the concepts of chi, the Yang and Yin of Chinese medicine. Prana, as the life-force and cosmic breath, is like the primordial chi, which also relates to wind and spirit. Tejas as the power of will and vigor resembles original Yang, which is the primal fire. Ojas, as endurance and stamina, resembles primordial Yin, which is the essence of water.
The main rule of ayurvedic treatment is to prevent any of the doshas from becoming too high because in excess they cause disease. The dosha predominant in our constitution tends toward excess and must be restrained through the appropriate lifestyle regimen. This is achieved through following the right diet, herbs, exercise, and meditation that counter doshic proclivities.
In the practice of yoga a new rule comes into play. The yogi seeks to increase all three forces of prana, tejas and ojas. As these are the purified forms of the doshas, they do not have the same disease-causing power. These three vital essences only cause problems if one is increased at the expense of the others. They are basically wholesome energies that aid in renewal and transformation. The question is how to keep them growing at a similar rate so that their imbalance does not cause problems.
Increased prana is necessary to provide the enthusiasm, creativity and adaptability necessary for the spiritual path, without which we lack the energy and motivation to do our practices.
Increased tejas provides the courage, fearlessness, and insight to take us along the path, without which we make wrong choices and judgments or fail to be decisive in what we do.
Increased ojas is necessary for the peace, confidence and patience to keep our development consistent, without which we lack steadiness and calm.
Should any of these factors be insufficient, our spiritual growth will be limited. These same factors increase positive health in both body and mind, and are helpful in treating all diseases, particularly of a chronic nature, including promoting rejuvenation.

FUNCTIONS OF PRANA, TEJAS AND OJAS

To understand these three forces let us examine how they function in the different aspects of our nature.

REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Prana, tejas and ojas are nourished by the reproductive fluid which functions as their support in the physical body. They are three aspects of the transformed reproductive fluid (shukra). Ojas is the latent state of the reproductive fluid that provides not only reproductive power but strength in general and nourishes all the bodily tissues from within, particularly the nerve tissue. Ojas is our power of endurance and ability to sustain us, not only sexually but through all forms of exertion, physical and mental.

Tejas is the activated state of the reproductive fluid when it is transformed into heat, passion and will power. This occurs not only in sexual activity but whenever we are challenged or need to exert ourselves. Tejas gives us valor, courage and daring. In yoga this force is necessary to enable us to perform tapas or transformative spiritual practices.

Prana is the life-creating capacity inherent in the reproductive fluid. This aids in longevity and rejuvenation and stimulates the flow of prana through the nadis, giving a deeper energy to the mind. Without the proper reserve of reproductive fluid, we will become deficient in prana, tejas and ojas. Wrong or excessive sexual activity depletes all three forces.

IMMUNE SYSTEM

Prana, tejas and ojas give energy to the immune system. Ojas is the basic capacity of the immune system, our potential to defend ourselves against external pathogens. It provides endurance, resistance and strength to ward off diseases. Tejas is the immune system which is able to burn and destroy toxins when activated. It generates the fever that the body produces to destroy the pathogens which attack it. Tejas is our ability to overcome acute diseases, which are generally infectious in nature. Tejas is ojas converted into heat, warmth and vitality. It is our ability to mobilize our immune systems forces.
Prana is the long-term activation of the immune function to project and develop life-energy which manifests when we are dealing with a chronic disease. It is the adaptability of the immune system and sustains all long-term healing processes. With sufficient prana, tejas and ojas, no disease can approach us. Increasing prana, tejas and ojas helps all low immune conditions.

NERVOUS SYSTEM AND NADIS

The nervous system is the master system governing all bodily systems. The three vital essences are responsible for its proper function. Prana governs the discharge and coordination of nerve impulses, which are pranic and vata forces. When deranged, it
causes hypersensitivity, tremors and imbalances in the nervous system. Tejas provides acuity of perception and feeling. Deranged tejas burns out the nervous system, causing inflammation and scarring of the nerve tissue. Ojas gives endurance and stability through the nervous system. It is responsible for the lubrication of the nerve channels. Nervous breakdown or nervous exhaustion occurs through low ojas. Prana, tejas and ojas govern the movement of impulses through the nadis as well. Ojas is the fluid that lines the nadis,
cushioning the flow of energy through them. Tejas is the heat moving through them. Prana is the energy moving produced by the heat of tejas. To safeguard the nadis we must protect prana, tejas and ojas.

BREATH

The three vital essences are present in the power of the breath. Prana is the basic energy and movement of the breath. Tejas is the heat produced by the breath. Ojas is the deeper energy that we absorb through the breath and keep as an energy reserve.

When Prana is deranged, the breath is shallow or disturbed. When Tejas is deranged, the heat content of the breath is abnormal. When Ojas is deranged, the absorbed energy of the breath is l
οw or we are unable to hold and consolidate it.

SENSES

Prana allows for the equilibrium and coordination of sensory impulses and is predominant in the ears (including the inner ear) and the skin, the Vata-predominant (ether and air) senses. Tejas is responsible for acuity of sensory function and our ability to digest sensory impressions. It dominates in the eyes, the Pitta or fire-predominant sense. Ojas is responsible for stability of the senses, as well as for their lubrication. It dominates in the tongue and the nose, the Kapha-predominant (water and earth) senses.

CREATlVITY

Prana, Tejas and Ojas are measures of creativity. Ojas is latent creative capacity, our storehouse of creative energy. Tejas is creative vision, the ability to see new things and break with the past. Prana is creative action to bring new things into being and remain in the creative state. Proper Ojas is necessary to give us the proper reserve of creative energy. Proper Tejas serves to direct our creative energy toward specific goals. Proper Prana functions to keep our creativity mobile and transformative.

MΙND ΑΝD CONSCIOUSNESS

Prana, Tejas and Ojas exist on deeper leνeΙs as well.
There is a Pranic force behind the mind that allows it to move and respond and which keeps it in balance. There is a Tejas force behind the mind that allows it to perceive and to determine, to digest impressions, ideas and emotions.
There is an Ojas force behind the mind that gives it patience and endurance, allowing it to resist disturbances.
Similarly, there is a Prana in our deeper consciousness that sustains us through the entire process of rebirth, imparting life to all the different bodies that we incarnate in.
There is a Tejas, the accumulated insight and vitality of our spiritual aspiration. There is an Ojas that is the power through which the SOUL produces all its various bodies. On the level of the Soul, Prana, Tejas and Ojas are the original life, Iight and love.
THE PRACTICE OF YOGA ΑΝD PRANA, TEJAS ΑΝD OJAS
The inner practice of Yoga is an alchemy of the three vital essences. For this, it is important that we are able to monitor the conditions of Prana, Tejas and Ojas within us. There are signs and symptoms of their excess, deficient or sufficient conditions. These can be understood by their functions relative to the different systems of the body.
Insufficient Ojas is revealed by weak immune function, lοw sexual vitality, lack of stamina, lack of patience, difficulty sleeping, ungroundedness and anxiety.
Insufficient Tejas is indicated by cold extremities, weak digestion, cloudy perception, indecisiveness and poor judgment.
Insufficient Prana shows us lack of energy and motivation, attachment and unwillingness to change.
KUNDALINI -SHAKTI ENERGY
Kundalini is the heightened energy of Tejas, which requires the proper Ojas to sustain it and the proper Prana to move it. Kundalini is the core internal fire that brings about all inner transformations. While much has been said of it in recent years, its related forces of Ojas and Prana have seldom been explained properly.
Kundalini or Tejas is the higher feminine energy within us that aspires to divinity. It is the Yoga Shakti, the power of Yoga, necessary to catalyze all higher evolutionary potentials within us. While it is the key to yogic alchemy, it must be understood in the context of its related forces.
AMRIT/SOMA -SHIVA ENERGY
Opposite to Kundalini is the Amrit or nectar that descends from the crown chakra and feeds the Kundalini in her upward ascent. This is the purified Ojas energy in the subtle body, which has been extracted and distilled through spiritual practices. Ojas is the higher masculine energy which, through surrender, care and protection, brings about the descent of grace.
HIGHEST PRANA
The union of Tejas (Kundalini) and Ojas (Amrit) creates the highest Prana, which is the immortal life energy. This alone has the power to create the higher samadhis (spiritual absorptions) necessary to dissolve the deep-seated conditionings (samskaras) in our consciousness (Chitta) that cause ουr attachment to the cycle of birth and death. This immortal Prana is the Divine child who is the child of immortality.

MORNING AND EVENING PRACTICE IS A NECESSITY ~ Atman Nityananda

MORNING AND EVENING PRACTICE IS A NECESSITY IN ORDER TO LIVE CONSCIOUSLY DURING THE DAY

Due to sleep the mind in the morning is in a tamasic state and gradually enters in a rajasic state. Both keep the mind in an hypnotic state of identification.

If we don't begin our day with prayer, pranayama, japa mantra and meditation we cannot enter in the sattva mental state and live during the day alert and awake of our presence. Without the morning practice we are going to pass our day in a day dreaming state identified with the mental and emotional patterns and the external incidents.

Similarly if you don´t practice in the evening before you go to sleep the mind will elaborate all mundane experiences. Thus from the day dreaming you will fall to sleep dreaming.

Before go to sleep focus your mind on divine thoughts and contemplate on God in order the mind to continue subconsciously during sleep to elaborate with these sublime thoughts.

If you want to elevate your mind and live consciously instead of a mechanical life then the morning and evening practice are a sine qua non.

If you want to go beyond your mind and realize your true nature you must practice not only morning and evening but during all day. Then and only then success is possible!

There is no ignorance other than the ego ~ Atman Nityananda

There is no ignorance other than the ego
Self-knowledge or Self-realization is not a matter of theoretical knowledge but of a knowledge that comes from direct experience.

We cannot know the truth (God) in the same way we know an object, because Truth is the eternal Subject not an object. Since our Self (what we are essentially) and the Truth is the One and the same reality, One and the same 'substance' (Consciousness) by realizing our true nature we realize the Truth. Since our Self is not an object, to realize our Self is to Be our Self; nevertheless in order to awaken in our true nature (Consciousness) is necessary an intuitive clear 'perception' of what is our Self.

What impedes us realize that we are the Consciousness and not the body is the ego. Ego is not related only with the pride and egoism or selfishness but also it is the factor that causes the identification with body and mind. Because of ego we take our selves to be a body-mind entity named so and so, separate of God and life.

Most spiritual texts and teachers say that because of ignorance we cannot realize our identity with God. There is no ignorance other than the ego. Ego and ignorance are identical. You can hear hundreds or thousands of times that you are the Consciousness and not the body as you sense and believe that you are; nevertheless if ego isn't transcended, awakening or realization cannot happen. The ego covers the clear silent space of consciousness as the clouds cover the sky. Only when the cloud of ego is gone the sky of space-like consciousness can be seen clearly.

Before awakening, if you become aware of the silent space of consciousness within, this experience is still an experience from the ego's point of view; that means that you as an ego you are aware of the silence. This is not awakening but only recognition of the inner silence as an experience of you.

Only when a shift happens and it is realized that you Are the inner silence, which is independent of the body, mind and ego then the truth is revealed to you and awakening is taking place.

But even after awakening there is not always a clear unobstructed experience of the peace and bliss of our true nature, (Consciousness) due to the fact that the ego continues in our psych. That's why is necessary to continue with our practice in order to avoid identification with the ego, mind and body and keep our mind focused in the silence within. Practice continues until the total dissolution of the ego. As long as the ego exists in us, it functions mechanically and compulsively, independently of our will. Thus more or less impede us rest in our rue nature and covers the peace and bliss of the Self.

Self-realization happens when the ego dissolves totally and thus there is nothing to cover the light of consciousness or to delude us and make us feel that we are the body or the mind.

Self-realization means that we are established in the Self as the Self due to the total dissolution of the ego; there is an effortless uninterrupted abidance in the Self as the Self (called Sahaja samadhi), experiencing the peace and bliss eternal!
