Self-awareness the foundation of Liberation

by Atman Nityananda

Being Self-aware moment to moment is an art that enables us to avoid identification with the mind and sensory impressions and live in peace, plenitude and freedom!

By dwelling (as firmly and deeply as possible) in inner silence we avoid identification with mental and emotional formations (desires, emotions, lust, likes, dislikes, etc.), we can manage them and let them go or make them subside and through prayer and the power of the mantra eliminate (diminish) their energy.

Om! The Gayatri Mantra! Atman Nityananda

The Gayatri Mantra

Gayatri is the Divine power which transforms man into a divine being and endows him with the brilliant light of supreme spiritual enlightenment. Whatever one's favourite Deity is, regular repetition of a few Mala (rosary of 108 beads) of Gayatri Mantra daily will give one immeasurable benefits and blessings. Its purifying power is immense. It eradicates all sins. It gives wonderful health, beauty, strength, vigour, well-being and magnetic aura to the person. It eliminates ignorance and makes man strong and of supreme intelligence. Its repetition ultimately leads to the realization of Universal Consciousness (Advaita Brahman) as a unity.

It is suitable for the whole world as it is a sincere prayer for light addressed to the Almighty Supreme Spirit.The nature of the Gayatri mantra is such that you can repeat it as you meditate on whatever form of God you like.

Gayatri is the most prominent of all the mantras because the deity to whom it refers is none other than Parabrahman himself. But many repeating the mantra meditate on Goddess Gayatri with the five faces. Every word, every letter of the Gayatri carries upon it the supreme Vedic concept of the absolute supreme truth.

Hairakan Babaji had instructed his disciples to learn the Gayatri mantra, which is included in the Arti worship ritual that disciples perform to Babaji morning and evening in the Hairakan Temple.

Om- bhur bhuvah svah-
Tat savitur varenyam-
Bhargo devasya dheemahi.
Dhiyo yo nah prachodayaat-
Om- bhur bhuvah swaha-
Tat savitur varenyam-
Bhargo devasya dhimahi...
Dhiyo yonah brachodayat-

As we pronounce it there is a slight pause at the places where hyphens have been placed

Meaning: "Let us meditate on the Creator (God) and His Glory, Who created the universe, who is fit to be worshipped, who eliminates ignorance and all sins. May He enlighten our intellects."
Note:There are several different versions of rendering the meaning of the mantra with minor differences not essential because the words contained in the mantra can be rendered with more than one meaning.

Find a quiet place or sit in the meditation room if you have one, or outside in nature just before sunrise. Sit in your asana and mentally repeat the mantra as many times as you can, but no less than 108 times, and feel steadily that you are receiving light, purification, and wisdom. Those who do not have the time can repeat the mantra three times at least, at sunrise at noon and at sunset. Finally one could repeat it while lying down, walking, sitting, etc.

Explanation of words

Om : symbol of Parabrahman
Bhur : natural world
Bhuvah: astral world
Svah: divine world
Tat: Brahman, Parabrahman
Savitur: the creator
Varenyam: it is fitting for him to be worshipped
Bhargo: he who eliminates ignorance and sins, glory, splendour.
Devasya: brilliant, radiant, shining
Dheemahi: meditate
Dhiyo: the intellect, the Bodhi
Yo: who
Nah: us

Eliminating the Ego by the Power of Mantra and the prayer ¬ Atman Nityananda

Eliminating the Ego by the Power of Mantra and the prayer

The mantras have the power to eliminate the selfish tendencies and make the mind pure-sattvic!

With the power of vibration of the mantras such as Om, Om Nama Shivay, Om Hriing Nama Shivay, Om Sri Jesus Christ Namaha, Om Sri Durgayai Namaha, Om Aeem Hriim Kriim Durgayai Namaha, we can dissolve the selfish energy and restore the mind to its sattvic state.

During the day each time a selfish tendency, (a desire, an impulse, a negative emotion, etc.) emerge within us, we can reduce the egoic energy by the power of the mantra and make it subside. The best condition to apply this method of elimination is to have the repetition of mantra as a central practice in our daily sadhana and not to apply the mantra only when we want to eliminate an egoistic tendency.

Continuous alertness, self-awareness and self-observation

It is important and necessary to keep our mind attentive during all day and to be in conscious contact with the silent space within; if not, we will easily identify with the selfish tendencies and  the mental  and emotional programming (if we are not alert we may not even know that we already are identified with some egoistic tendency or pattern) and we will be in a difficult position to manage the situation effectively.

It is sought in spirituality to be constantly vigilant, aware of the silent space within (self-awareness) and observe carefully what happens in us, in order to be aware of the manifestation of the selfish tendency as quickly as possible, at its very beginning. The more vigilant and aware we are and the sooner we perceive the manifestation of selfish tendency, the easier will be not to identify with it and manage the situation effectively (that means to make the tendency to settle down and reduce to some degree its energy by the power of the mantra and a prayer. The best way to remain during all day vigilant and in conscious contact with the silent space within (self-awareness) is to repeat the name of God, a mantra (eg. 'Om Nama Shivay') or to repeat a phrase of truth like, 'I am the Light of Consciousness, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm’, 'I am the inner silent presence, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm’, ‘I am Brahman, Ooommm Brahman '.

Full attention and awareness of the selfish tendency

Every time a selfish tendency, a desire, an impulse or a negative emotion emerges (I will use as an example here, the feeling of shame), pay attention to it, feel it fully, be fully aware of the shame and also be in contact with the silence within. To avoid or overcome any internal resistance or reaction to the shame (such as feeling resentment or anger because shame arises in you ) that can keep you trapped in the vibration of the ego and identified strongly  with the ego, which will prevent you from consciously managing the situation, you can do the question-reflection, "Can I accept that the shame is manifested in me?" "Can I experience it completely without judging what I feel? This questioning will help you to relax and create space within you and will get you in a position and intense attention and aware of the shame and the silent space within. Ask yourself these questions and feel the shame completely with fullq attention. Being fully aware of what you feel (shame in this case) will bring you to a deeper contact wih the inner silent.

The awareness of the internal silent presence

If the shame distracts forcefully your attention and you have difficulty* to be in touch with the inner silence, it will help you get in touch the following question, ‘Can I experience the silence in me?’, or you can get in touch with the inner silence as well through the sense 'I exist'. You ask the question, 'Can I feel that I exist? and through this questioning you will come into contact with the sense 'I exist' and through the sense 'I exist' you will come into contact with inner silence. (Read more about this method in the subject of 'Meditation through the sensing of the Body').

Comment
you have difficulty * to be into contact with inner silence: To be able throughout the day to maintain relatively easily the conscious contact with the inner silence and avoid the identification with selfish tendencies (when these are manifested), it is necessary to practice every day morning and evening meditation, which is the fundamental practice of getting in touch with inner silence, to deepen and to be established in it. It is also necessary, throughout the day to remain vigilant and attentive so that we can keep in touch with inner silence and observe our minds, so that we can perceive the manifestation of egoistic tendencies on time, not identify with them and eliminate them by the power of mantra, a prayer and other ways as well.

It is suggested to deepen in the silence within and stay there for a while. Then focus again on the feeling of shame and then again on the inner silence. You can focus two three times alternatively on the emotion and the inner silence, this will help to disidentify more from the emotion and calm it down (little, quite or very much depending on your inner state of that moment and the situation). Finally feel again the feeling of shame by being in touch with inner silence, feel the shame through the silence. While you are aware of the inner silence and the shame as well, repeat several times the mantra, for example the mantra Om, (repeat mentally Ooommm in a prolonged way) and feel the vibration of 'Om' impregnating the energy of shame. Do not try to stop the manifestation of shame with the power of your will; just be aware of the inner silence, feel the emotional energy and as you say the mantra Ooommm feel the vibration of the mantra saturate the energy of shame. Repeat the mantra with full attention and let its vibrations eliminate it.

You can also combine the mantra with a prayer and ask from the Divine Mother to eliminate the egoistic tendency.

How we do the prayer

We gather the attention within and being aware of the inner silence, the centre of our existence, we say from the heart: ‘My Divine Mother (you can also pray to Christ, or to God, etc.) eliminate this energy of shame, or freed my mind from the feeling of shame and permeate me with light, peace and love. 'I am light, peace and love', 'I am light, peace and love', 'Everything is light, peace and love', 'Only light, peace and love exists', ‘Ooommm 'Light, peace and love, ‘Ooommm 'Light, peace and love’, Ooommm, Ooommm, Ooommm’. As we say these words, we deepen the contact with the silent presence within us. I emphasize that is very important feeling what we say (not simply saying dry words) and being deeply aware of our inner silence as well.

I stress that it is important to be aware of the inner silent presence when you say the mantra with the intention to eliminate the egoic  energy that is manifested in you because when we are in contact with inner silence, the power of the mantra and prayer multiply. The deep contact with inner silence weakens the identification with the selfish tendency and thus facilitates its elimination. The inner silent presence is our true nature, it is constantly present, and it is untouched by what happens in the body and the mind. Therefore, when we are consciously in touch with inner silence, we are capable to maintain a distance from psychological reactions and not be lost in them, and also operate from a higher level of Consciousness that facilitates the elimination of the selfish tendencies.

If when arises within you a selfish tendency or a negative feeling (let’s take shame as example), you are not aware of the inner silence, by focusing completely on shame and by sense it with full attention, it will help you become aware of the inner silence. When we consciously and calmly we put full attention to the emotion, this will bring the inner silence to the fore and thus we will come into contact with the inner silence. Everything we do with full conscious attention brings us back to our centre, it helps us to become aware of the inner silent presence. If you have difficulty getting in touch with inner silence, you can make it easier by asking the question, 'Can I feel  the silence in me?' Questioning this silently it will bring you into contact with inner silence. It can also help you get in touch with inner silence the feeling 'I exist'. You first come into contact with the feeling 'I exist' utlizing the question, 'Can I feel that I exist? and as you become aware of the feeling 'I exist'' you will come in contact with inner silence. By being in contact with the inner silence and the feeling of shame as well, you can repeat the mantra to reduce the energy of selfish tendency and make it subside as well. I remind you that you can also combine the mantra with prayer and ask the Divine Mother to eliminate the egoistic tendency.

When we are deeply absorbed in the inner silence, the ego cannot steal easily our attention and to manifest itself with thoughts, feelings, impulses, desire, etc. and make us identify with them. But if the contact with inner silence is not deep enough, although we are in contact with inner silence, the ego can more easily distract and steal our attention and project thoughts, fantasies and make us react mechanically to that we experience externally in every moment. Nevertheless, by being in contact with inner silence, we have the possibility not to identify with selfish reactions, to recognize them in time and to eliminate them by the power of the mantra and the prayer. Keep in mind that If we are careless, if we don´t constantly strive to keep intimate contact with the inner silence, then we will easily lose the state of alertness and the contact with inner silence and we will identify with the imaginations, thoughts, desires, feelings, impulses that our ego is projecting and we will be lost in our ego´s ways, suffering the consequences of forgetfulness and identification.

If we want to avoid the identification with the patterns and programming of the inferior ego and experience the peace and plenitude of our essential nature (Consciousness, Atman) we have moment to moment to take care of remaining vigilant and deepening in the awareness of the inner silence. Without this constant care, we will easily lose the contact with the peace within, we will identify with the mechanical reactions of the ego; moreover, we will not be capable to do a serious work with ourselves in order to achieve a radical transformation, much less to achieve liberation (enlightenment, self-realization).

~~~~~~
Silent japa should be engaged in at all times. One must not waste breath uselessly; whenever one has nothing special to do, one should silently practice japa in rhythm with one's breathing. In fact, this exercise should go on continually until doing japa has become as natural as breathing.
Quote of Haidakhan Babaji
The water to clean your heart is the Name of God
Of greatest importance is that the Repetition of God's Name (Japa) increase daily. In this way, your heart and mind will be purified and only then will you find God in yourself.
The mind can be purified only by Japa. This is the only medicine for the disease of the mind.
While your mind and heart are impure, how can God live in your heart? The water to clean your heart is the Name of God. So teach everyone to repeat the Name of God--everywhere
The mantra "Om mama shivay"
This Om Nama Shivay is like nectar; feed everyone with this nectar. Shri Mahaprabhuji wishes that all words would disappear from this world, except for three - Om Nama Shivay. This is the original mantra. When Primordial Energy first appeared, the first mantra that She uttered from Her holy mouth was Om Nama Shivay.
Meditation & Japa nama
In this dark age (Kali Yuga) the mind of man is weak and restless from the first day of birth. Because of this, no one is able to do the real practice of meditation anymore, but everyone can pray and repeat and chant the name of the Lord, using whichever divine name his religion teaches.
~ Haidakhan Babaji
The Wisdom of Chanting and Singing to Lord Siva ॐ By Swami Sivananda Saraswati
The Wisdom of Chanting and Singing to Lord Siva ॐ
The Name of Lord Siva chanted in any way, correctly or incorrectly, knowingly or unknowingly, carefully or carelessly, is sure to give the desired result. The Glory of the Name of Lord Siva cannot be established through reasoning and intellect. It can certainly be experienced or realized only through devotion, faith and 'constant repetition' of the Name and singing His hymns with Bhava (pure reverent approach).
Every Name is filled with countless potencies or Saktis. The power of the Name is ineffable. Its Glory is indescribable. The efficiency and inherent Sakti of the Name of Lord Siva are unfathomable.
The mind is purified by constant repetition of Siva-Stotra and Names of Lord Siva. The Stotras are filled with good and pure thoughts. Repetition of the hymns to Siva strengthens the good Samskaras. “As a man/woman thinks, that one becomes”. This is the psychological law. The mind of a one who trains their self in thinking good, holy thoughts develops a tendency to think of good thoughts.
Their character is moulded and transformed by continued good thought. When the mind thinks of the 'Image of the Lord' during singing His hymns, the mental substance actually assumes the form of the Image of the Lord. The impression of the object thought of is left in the mind. This is called Samskara. When the act is repeated very often, the Samskaras gain strength by repetition, and a tendency or habit is formed in the mind.
One who entertains Thoughts of Divinity, becomes transformed actually into the Divinity itself by constant thinking. Ones Bhava or disposition is purified and Divinized.  When one sings the hymns of Lord Siva, one is in tune with the Lord. The individual mind melts in the cosmic mind. One who sings the hymns becomes One with Lord Siva.
Just as fire has the natural property of burning inflammable things, so also the Name of Lord Siva has the power of burning the sins, Samskaras and Vasanas and bestowing eternal bliss and everlasting peace on those who repeat the Name of the Lord.
Just as burning quality is natural and inherent in fire, so also the power of destroying sins with their very root and branch and bringing the aspirant into 'blissful union' with the Lord through Bhava Samadhi, is natural and inherent in the Name of God.
O Friends! Take refuge in the Name of Siva. Sing His hymns. Nami and Name are inseparable. Sing Lord Siva’s hymns incessantly. Remember the Name of the Lord with every incoming and outgoing breath. In this Iron Age, Nama-Smarana, (the supreme sadhana) or singing the hymns is the easiest, quickest, safest and surest way to reach God and attain Immortality and perennial joy.
Glory to Lord Siva! Glory to His Name!
ॐ नमः शिवाय.  On nama Shivay!
We need to understand spirituality and live accordingly ~ Amma
We need to understand spirituality and live accordingly. Only then will life become blissful.
Those who desire only worldly pleasures must be prepared to experience suffering as well.
To be worldly is to forget God; it is to want nothing but your own happiness, relying on material objects for that purpose, and being forced to suffer most of your life for the sake of little fragments of pleasure. This is how people lose their peace of mind, and affect those around them as well. To be selfless and surrender everything to God, that is spirituality. Those who live in this way not only experience inner peace themselves, but also engender peace in the hearts of those around them.
Worldly life contains sorrow. Yet, life can still give us happiness if we have some understanding of spirituality. If we jump into a rough sea without having had any training, we could be overwhelmed by the waves and even drown. But those who know how to swim in the sea can easily handle even big waves. Similarly, if we allow spirituality to be the foundation of our lives, we can go forward without faltering under any circumstances, no matter how difficult. The mind finds happiness in one object and hates another. Some people feel they can't live without cigarettes, while others are disturbed by cigarette smoke. Happiness and sorrow reside in the mind.
If you control your mind and direct it toward the right path, there will be only happiness in your life. For this you need spiritual knowledge; and if you live in accordance with that knowledge; and if you live in accordance with that knowledge, there can be no sorrow. Try to chant a mantra always. Talk only about God. Relinquish all selfishness. Surrender everything to God. If you can live in this way, you won't experience suffering.
If we can so easily become attached to anything in the world, why can't we become attached to God ? Our tongues know how to talk about everything; Why can't we teach our tongues to chant our Mantra? If we can do this, not only we ourselves, but also those around us, will find peace.
Our true Self (Consciousness), is beyond the lower and the higher ego ~ Atman Nityananda
Our true Self (Consciousness), is beyond the lower and the higher ego
We have two selves the higher and the lower one. The higher is eternal and the lower temporary. The higher or true Self is the Atman (pure Consciousness) which is identical with Brahman the universal Consciousness, (Spirit or God). The lower self is the ego and has two aspects, the lower or rajasotamasic ego and the higher or sattvic ego. In reality and more precisely the ego is not a self but an illusory identity which hasn't any reality in itself.
The higher Self (Atman), our essential nature is Satchitananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss absolute) is beyond the three gunas. Atman is causeless, formless, timeless, changeless and immovable.
The lower self is made by the three gunas and the elements (5 subtle and 5 gross), it is  temporary (has beginning and end), is changing, has a cause (Divine shakti or Maya), has a form, it is conditioned by the qualities of nature, it is subject to pain and suffering.
Our goal as a human being is to realize that we are the Atman and not the body as we think and feel that we are. Although we are the Atman and never separate from God due to the ego we identify with the body and mind and we live as a separate body-mind entity. The goal of spirituality is the dissolution of the lower self or ego and the reestablishment in our immortal divine nature.
Mind and gunas*
Normally in the mind of every man exist all the gunas. In some prevails the sattva guna (which is very rare), to the majority the rajas and to others el tamas. According the guna that prevails in our mind, the mind it is endowed with certain mental and emotional qualities. The nature of the ego which is part of the mind is also determined by the three gunas. The ego associated with the rajas and tamas gunas it is named rajasotamasic ego and it is the lower ego. The ego associated with the sattva guna it is named sattvic ego and is the higher ego.
The lower ego (rajasotamasic)
The lower ego (rajasotamasic) identifies us to the body, drives the attention outwards and connects you with the outer world through the senses. It attaches to the objects, persons and situations and seeks through them pleasure, success, fame, recognition, power, comforts, possessions and money. Its nature is desire, lust, greed, pride, arrogance, vanity. It moves between rajasic and tamasic mental and emotional states.
The rajasotamasic ego feels always discontent, uneasy, anxious, incomplete, insufficient, bored. It always tries to overcome these negative states as well as the anger, resentment, fear, jealousy, hatred, restlessness, depression, by seeking some kind of pleasant or pleasurable experience.
More specific the tamasic aspect of ego doesn’t want and resists any effort for inner change and development of a higher consciousness. It keeps man in an 'animal' like state. All criminality, violence, exploitation, auto-destructive behavior, insensitiveness, drugs, alcohol, sexual and other perversions, dishonest, addictions, psychopath, are related to the tamasic nature of ego and mind.
The rajasic aspect of ego seeks pleasure, fame, power, money, possessions etc..The rajasic ego does thingsto improve the health, the vitality and the mental capacities, but only for the sake of accomplishing its goals for pleasure, fame, power, money, possessions etc.. According the circumstances and the doshic constitution (Pitta-Kapha-Vata) our rajasic ego make us hyperactive, agitated, volatile, restless, disturbed, distracted, nervous, anxious, superficial, noisy, disruptive, false enthusiasm, excitable, impulsive, ambitious, aggressive, controlling, critical, dominating, manipulating, angry, reckless, proud, vain, controlling, attached, greedy, lustful, materialistic, sentimental, needing security, seeking of comfort and luxury.
Due to hyperactivity, agitation, distraction and excitation of the rajasic mind we fall in tamasic states, because it is impossible to maintain our physical and psychological system in stress and hyperactivity for a long time without to collapse soon or later.
The rajasotamasic ego moves between tamasic and rajasic psychological states and activities. If in the mind there is more rajas the rajasic moments will prevail more time and more often than the tamasic ones and the opposite.
The higher or sattvic ego
The higher or sattvic ego which is the direct instrument of our Soul, seeks love, unity, brotherhood, harmony, purity, peace, equilibrium, creativity, auspiciousness. It seeks higher states of consciousness and a conscious connection with the divine consciousness.
By nature a sattvic ego and mind harmonious, adaptable, flexible, has quick comprehension, good in communication, strong sense of human unity,, good enthusiasm, positive spirit, capacity for positive change and movement, clear, perceptive, high capacity to discern the real from the unreal, the true from the false, good will, friendly, courageous, calm, peaceful, content, stable, consistent, loyal, loving, compassionate, forgiving, patient, devoted, receptive, nurturing, supportive, faith.
The sattvic ego and mind is our faithful servant that can lead us to liberation of the lower mind and the realization of our true nature or Atman (pure Consciousness). If we want to overcome suffering and diseases and live a life of fullness, love, happiness and peace, we must by any possible mean to increase the sattva quality in our mind. There is no other way.
We can increase sattva by two ways. Both are necessary. 1. By seeking outside, sattvic relations, associations, sattvic impressions and by eating sattvic food. 2. By practicing regularly in daily basis spiritual practices like study of sacred texts and spiritual books from enlightened beings, repeat mantras, and doing devotional practices, pranayama, meditation, self-enquiry.
Sattva is the fundamental factor for good health (physical and psychological) and for the achievement of Self-realization. We can success in life and spirituality by increasing the sattva quality in our psyche.
Spirituality is a process by which we dissolve our lower rajasotamasic mind by the power of the higher sattvic mind and finally overcome the sattvic one by identifying completely with our true nature (Atman, pure Consciousness) which is beyond the three gunas, (Atman is gunanita: beyond the gunas).
Practice patiently and steadily for your salvation from the lower qualities of nature and realize your ever free true nature, the Atman (Pure Consciousness) which is eternal freedom, peace and bliss without limits!
NOTE:
Mind and gunas*:
 Mental Types According to the Gunas
To have Sattva predominant in our nature is the key to health, creativity and spirituality.
Sattvic people possess an harmonious and adaptable nature which gives the greatest freedom from disease both physical and mental. They strive toward balance and have peace of mind that cuts off the psychological root of disease. They are considerate of others and take care of themselves. They see all life as a learning experience and look for the good in all things, even in disease which they strive to understand, not merely to suppress.
Rajasic people have good energy but burn themselves out through excessive activity. Their minds are usually agitated and seldom at peace. They have strong opinions seek power over others often regardless of the means. They are impatient and inconsistent in dealing with their problems and do not wish to take the time or responsibility to get well. They blame others for their problems, including their therapists.
Rajasic people can accomplish their goals and are generally in control of their lives. However, they are not awake to their spiritual purpose, and are dominated by the ego in their pursuit of happiness. Life brings them shocks, which can cause them great suffering, particularly when they lose control. Even when they achieve their goals they find that they are still not happy.
Tamasic types have deep-seated psychological blockages. Their energy and emotion tends to be stagnant and repressed and they do not know what their problems really are. They do not seek proper treatment and usually have poor hygiene or poor self-care habits. They accept their condition as fate and do not take advantage of the methods that may alleviate their problems. They allow other people and negative influences to dominate them and do not like to be responsible for their lives. They prefer not to deal with their problems or will not let others know about them, which only allows the problems to get worse.
The admixture of gunas
However, we must not forget the admixtures of the gunas. There is a higher rajas and tamas in the field of sattva and a lower sattva in the fields of rajas and tamas. Similarly there are rajasic aspects of tamas and tamasic aspects of rajas. The following are some brief descriptions.
1. Rajasic Sattva: the acιive or transformative force of sattva, the power of, spiritual aspiration that struggles upward, ever seeking greater growth and unfoldment. It is also any energy of healing that brings about integration and wholeness.
2. Tamasic Sattva: the destructive force of sattva that eliminates negativity: It is also the stability inherent in sattva, its capacity to endure through all obstacles. It is the capacity of a state of balance to sustain itself and to ward off disease or imbalance.
3. Sattvic Rajas: the type of religion, spirituality or idealism of rajasic people. It has rajasic traits of aggression, outer expansion and the seeking of power Religions based upon militance, exclusivism and intolerance reflect this quality.
4. Tamasic Rajas: the inertia of rajasic types, their resistance to any higher force, and holding to their own personal power and impulses regardless of the consequences for themselves or others.
5. Sattvic Tamas: the religion, spirituality or idealism of tamasic people. It has tamasic traits of destruction, darkness, and delusion. It is the level of dark cults and superstitions.
6. Rajasic Tamas: the aggression and violence ·of dull and ignorant people lι is perhaps the most destructive gunic quality. Tamasic types literally trample over others and, devoid of sensitivity, delight in harm and destruction. Deep sexual perversions come at this level.
More about the mind and gunas:
